Advice Please???

Hello Bloggers!

I need the help of you mommy bloggers out there. Last night Lindsay was up again from 4-6 a.m. We are getting NO sleep around here. I put her down last night at 10 p.m. because my sis was here spending the night and we kept her up to play. I thought for sure that this would guarantee a long night of sleep. Normally, Lindsay will sleep 12 hours (sometimes longer) uninterrupted.
When she gets up she wants to play, eat, anything as long as she's out of her crib. I can feel that her right side one year molers are trying to cut. Does this have something to do with this night wakening period we're going through? We gave her Motrin last night at 4:30 but she fought it and it was still just before 6 when I was able to finally lay her in her crib without a fuss.

I'm afraid we're enabling a pattern here of going to the living room to play at 4 a.m. We were going to let her cry a bit last night and not take her out of her crib, but we didn't want her waking our company too.

As far as I can tell she is healthy. No fever, no ear infection etc. The teeth don't seem to be bothering her terribly yet. She is stuffy and drooling more now which is more than likely due to the teeth. Usually if she wakes up in the middle of the night she turns her own music on and goes back to sleep just fine.

Ok...I'm leaving it open for comments here please. It's 11 a.m. on Sunday morning and she and daddy are still sleeping. I'm going to go wake her up at this point because otherwise she won't nap today either and then we'll have a fussy baby on our hands this evening.

I need help getting through this people...tomorrow is a work day!! UGH!

Do we let her cry it out tonight? Pat and shush for a few and then leave the room? The books say to do that and each time leave the room a little bit longer til they eventually go to sleep.

I'm open to suggestions here...
Thanks!

Obviously I have ZERO personal expereince but the same thing happened to one of my friends at work and she did what you mentioned from the book and it worked... she said it is harder on you than kiddo and that once you start, you can't stop and take her to the kitchen to eat because then she knows you will eventually break down if she just keeps crying long enough. That being said... have you tried whiskey? For her and/or you? ha-ha. Good luck and let me know what works so I can use it later! :-)

Yep, its the first of many times you'll have to use "tough love". I hated having David cry it out, but as the parent you know what she needs best. Hold her rock her sing to her, but don't leave the room with her. Put her back in her crib and she'll cry something fierce but eventually she will go back to sleep-even if it takes 3 trips back to her room...it may take a few days of this, but she will eventually figure it out.

Thanks for your comments so far. I guess it's such a shock to us b/c normally she is an ANGEL sleeper. Hopefully tonight she'll sleep through, since we can tell she's as tired as us today. BUT, when this happens again we'll try out what the book says. Why do I have a feeling it's gonna be a LONG week?????

You will be happy in the long run if you take our friends advice in my opinion. You shouldn't leave the room with her, feed or play with her for the exact reason you said...she will come to expect it. It is tough love, but pays off if you can just hang in there. She really is fine to cry it out (while doing the rock and pat technique in her room)as long as you know she's not sick or wet. It is much more hard on you and Mike than it is on her, I agree. Good luck my friend! Wish I could be there to help out and let Mom and Dad sleep. :)

It must be the margaritta that's making me comment :)
So sorry - for all - that Lindsay is having a hard time. We agree with the check on her, pat the back, put back down but don't get her up. Do you have a night light in the room? Derek didn't like the dark.
Good luck - hope it's a good night.

We had to let Luke cry it out and by the end of the week he was over it. Every night he cried a little less. It was hard but it was well worth it.
